What they say --
Emperor Norton's Stationary Marching Band (http://www.ensmb.com/) is currently looking for musicians to play accordion, trumpet, and trombone.
Our repertoire consists of original compositions inspired by klezmer and gypsy music, New Orleans second line and Jazz, pirate shanties, circus music, etc... We also like to play traditional tunes and covers ranging from Balkan folk songs to heavy metal to 19th century marches.
In short, we consider ourselves a circus band - blending together a variety of backgrounds and influences into a rambunctious spectacle. We are often accompanied by the Madcap Rumpus Society - a rotating cast of circus performers including dancers, aerialists, sideshow artists, and whatever other freaky people we can round up. We have also performed with local burlesque groups, sideshows and circus artists.
We are a well-established group, so you should be enthusiastic about what we do, ready to take charge of your portion of the music, and willing to add your own thing. You shouldn’t be afraid of dressing in costume, or playing random events in strange locations, or marching (we do play regular club gigs as well).
We are looking for competent musicianship, but the right energy and attitude are just as critical to being a part of our menagerie. A third requirement would be reliability, as we sometimes face extra rehearsals, short-notice projects, or frequent gigs. We practice every Thursday night in Somerville, and gig 1-3 times a month… you must be able to accommodate this schedule.
If this sounds like you, please reply to email@example.com, and let’s play!
What I say -- if my schedule had any chance of permitting me to join ENSMB, I'd do it, even if all I played were the triangle. If you play any instrument they seek, I strongly encourage you to try out.
