I knew the storm was coming. I knew it was gonna suck driving home. I didn't think we'd get released early. I should have worked from home.
At 1pm, we got clearance to leave early.
I wrapped things up quickly, and was out the door by 1:10.
My 15 mile drive home is normally about 30 minutes, with light traffic. Miss the 5:00-5:05 window and get caught in the rush, and it typically expands to about an hour.
Today I count myself lucky that it *only* took me 2 hours to get home. Including a brief stop for some extra groceries -- less than a mile from my door.
While driving, the radio was talking about a 9 mile stretch of highway traveling at 5 mph. I'm hearing stories from various friends of 3 to 5 mile trips taking 3 to 5 hours.
I think if I'd hit traffic *that* bad, I'd have parked somewhere as close to Davis as I could get (about halfway between office and home), and walked around until I found someone home, with whom to hole up for the duration.
So, I'm home and reasonably comfy, fed and watered, vaguely entertained by the telly... but wishing for more people, a movie night, yadda yadda, within walking range. Davis-ish living must become a reality.
