Labor Day weekend ... not so restful

It all started on Wednesday.

chameleonlac was moving from Maynard to Williamsburg, and had some big bed pieces that wouldn't fit in his car. I have a trailer, and would be traveling through Williamsburg anyway -- so I offered to help out.

Wednesday morning, I got up early, picked up my trailer from Melrose, and took it to work with me. After work, I drove it out to Maynard, and left it with chameleonlac for loading....

Friday evening or Saturday morning, I was going to collect it on my way west to a wedding in Worthington. I did, but there was much more in the midst of that mission.

Thursday evening, I learned that some lights and sound equipment for the reception, which was something of a community effort, needed to go from Concord, and they needed some help loading it into the truck which was to carry it. As Friday progressed, it turned out that there was more complexity to this.

The guy who was to drive the truck was in Concord. He needed a ride to Somerville to get the truck and some of the gear. Then he needed help loading the other gear back in Concord. There was no-one else around to do this.

So I drove from Burlington to Concord, and then to Somerville. Hung around there for 90 minutes or so, for various reasons. Then back to Concord, and loaded a bunch of gear into the truck. Then I went to Maynard and got my trailer, and continued on to Williamsburg, where I arrived around midnight. Unloaded the bed and such from the trailer, hung around another half-hour or so, and on to Worthington where I crashed at Glenwood until 11am or so...

Gradual waking on Saturday, drank some coffee, then a quick shower between the residents taking theirs, and dressed for the wedding. Give another guest a ride the couple miles to the wedding site. Visit with several people I don't see often enough, waiting for the ceremony. Off to a nice clearing in the woods (not standing in the sun-drenched field, so no sunburn!) for the ritual vows and handfasting and broom jump and such. Back to the tent and similar structures for fabulous food and receiving line to tie wishes onto the broom, and a grand good time for several hours.....

Around 9, start tiring, and do a fair bit of help taking down chunks of the decorations -- though not nearly everything. Around 10, be the convenient person with jumper cables and a suitable car to jump the one which lights had been accidentally left on.... Around 11, back to Glenwood for smaller socializing with some of those who were staying there that night, a bit of chocolate, and a bit of tea... In bed by 1 or so....

Awoke around 11am again, got my world together, and shifted from Glenwood to the Ponderosa (the bride & groom's estate) for bagels and coffee and casual hang-out with lingering family and friends (most had stayed in the local B&Bs). Then learned that there was no-one on tap to help with the truck and gear for the return trip, and it came down to me again....

So, instead of driving east around noon, to help a *different* friend move and separate from her soon-to-be-ex husband (there were several people already doing that), I stayed west, and helped take down an army tent, and the rest of the decorations and light and sound gear, and helped load it all into the truck, and around 4 we managed to drive away....

From Worthington to the Pike, where we eventually stopped for food and fuel at the Sturbridge rest area. Then on to Somerville, where we didn't have to unload the whole truck at least, but did have to shift the Concord-destined stuff into my trailer. Then on to Concord, where some gear was unloaded from trailer to 2nd floor shop; then to the home where the rest of that gear was unloaded...

Then, I proceeded home to Chelsea... where I arrived, at last, around 9. Tomorrow, Monday, Labor Day, I will be meeting *another* friend in Woburn, to get a couple of bookcases and beds, which will then be taken out to Ayer where the separating friend has her new apartment and needs some additional furniture.... where it will be unloaded. Then I'll be bringing the trailer back to Melrose again, and myself to Chelsea....

Unless -- and this is the big one -- unless someone out there is having a bar-b-que or similar gathering, where I can show up with or without some donations, to RELAX a bit, for this weekend has been ... draining.
