NYC crash space for a few weeknights?

(edited because things change...)

I've got a pair of technology conferences next week, for which the boss has just trimmed my trip from Monday thru Friday, to Wednesday Tuesday EARLY thru Thursday LATE which lowers its value rather a lot a fair amount, and makes my week much more stressy. I believe the largest factor in his thinking is cost, which is mostly in hotelling (~$300/night before taxes and such).

So I'm wondering how many people I know who are in easy commuting distance from Madison & 45th, might have a couch or spare room I could sleaze into for a night or two. If I can find space for 3 a couple of nights, I should may be able to take the week, and really make the trip worthwhile. Boston-area crashspace is likely to be available to you in return, and I think I'll be able to justify buying my host(s) a tasty dinner at least once.

Travel is still up in the air; might is now planned to be rail or air, or even driving if there's reasonably secure parking in that area. It'd probably be Monday, on a 7am Tuesday Acela Express, to arrive at the conference by 12pm, and returning late Friday Thursday evening (7pm departure from Penn Station).

If I'm driving, a passenger or two are welcome. If you were a passenger to NYC, and had bedspace for me Sunday and/or Monday night, I could be convinced to drive down on Sunday; likewise, a leisurely Saturday or even Sunday return would be possible, if free accommodations presented themselves for that long....
